Traffic Committee Update

The Traffic Committee has been working diligently to resolve the traffic and transit issues brought forth by our community. In addition to looking at the new bus Route 93, we are looking at various traffic calming initiatives in our neighborhood and are working alongside the City of Calgary for direction and implementation.

  • The bike lanes along Spruce Drive were repainted and will remain in place. The City will be completing the final fixes of these lanes in the next few weeks.
  • We are no longer pursuing a 4-way stop at the intersection of Spruce Drive and 45 Street, as research suggests this type of measure would not be effective in solving the current issues. Instead, the Committee has decided that a traffic circle or button (smaller version of a traffic circle) would be better suited at this intersection.
  • We are looking at calming measures on other streets in Wildwood that are experiencing high traffic volumes, short-cutting to Edworthy Park and speeding.
  • We have made proposals to the City but will not be advised if we are successful until early 2014 (the City will evaluate all community submissions in December 2013 and make their decision shortly thereafter).

It is important that as a committee representing Wildwood residents, we keep the community apprised of where we are focusing our efforts. As a volunteer committee, we put in as much time as we can spare but due to time constraints, we may not be able to take on every issue presented to us however we will do our best to look at all concerns from community members.
