Tennis: an individual or team sport that uses a racquet, tennis ball and sometimes a tennis net! Some players are naturally talented, some need to work to get the ball over the net, and some are new to the sport. Whatever your ability, we want you on the courts this season!
Our Wildwood Tennis program was sparked by a Tennis Canada initiative called “Building Tennis Communities.” The Wildwood Community Association (WCA) Board welcomed the new program, and thus started the basis of our own community tennis program.
With the help of Tennis Canada, business sponsorship and the WCA Board, our tennis program has begun to thrive. We have helped local schools (Wildwood Elementary, Westgate Elementary and St. Michael School) get an introduction to Progressive Tennis. This involves small collapsible tennis nets, smaller racquets and depressurised tennis balls. We use this program in our Junior community lessons.
With help from sponsors, we have been able to buy a multitude of equipment. One of our sponsors helped to design our new Wildwood Tennis logo! These businesses have been invaluable with our start-up.
We have had different and unique coaches with much expertise over the past four years. Last year and this upcoming year, we have been fortunate to secure several University of Calgary Tennis players for our lessons.
Our biggest accomplishment to date is putting the Tennis registration online for all our participants. This is going to be an incredible help for all the volunteers that work behind the scenes!
We hope you enjoy our spring and summer Junior and Adult tennis programs, or have fun hitting some balls with a friend! See page 13 for program information or visit: mywildwood.ca/programs/tennis.
Hope to see you all out on the courts this 2014 season!
