My Wildwood story started on May 6, 1994. That was the year my husband, Allan, and I found our first home. Little did we know at the time that the experiences and friendships forged in this neighbourhood would keep us here for 20 years and prevent us from ever wanting to leave!
My real involvement in the neighbourhood began in 1995, when my first child was born. As a new mom looking for some adult conversation, I discovered the Wildwood Playgroup. Not only did I meet some amazing stay-at-home Dads and Moms, but it compelled me to want to do more within the community. I could see it was a special place, with special people keen to make Wildwood the best it could be.
As anyone who knows me will tell you, I have a hard time saying “no,” so volunteering as coordinator of the Playgroup soon turned into Kids’ Events organizer, Little Tykes Sale co-coordinator and then Adult Events organizer. Volunteering runs deep in my veins so while I did take a three-year break from the Wildwood Community Association Board, I just couldn’t stay away! I am proud to be back again, organizing some amazing events with the very talented Marni Lingard.
I have 20 years of wonderful memories, many of which I attribute to being connected and heavily involved with the Wildwood Community Association, and I look forward to seeing what lies ahead for my family in the next 20 years!
On Saturday, July 12th the Wildwood Community Association is hosting its first (in a LONG time!) Stampede Breakfast. Please join us for a morning of music, food and fun! Community is all about meeting your neighbours, getting involved and making forever-memories.
If you are interested in volunteering an hour or two, we would love to have you. Email: email@example.com for more details.
