Helping Hands

The end of November marks a year since we made our move from the suburbs of Calgary into the city to Wildwood. We were amazed when our neighbours came to our door that first freezing cold week to introduce themselves and to welcome us to the neighbourhood. We immediately felt the warmth and community that this neighbourhood radiates. We knew we had made the right move and found home!

Inspired by the vibrancy of the community I find myself, less than a year after moving here, as editor of the community newsletter. I’m excited by all the fantastic activities, programs, and events that Wildwood offers and see all the work that goes into making these events happen. It takes a village of people both behind the scenes and at the events to ensure the programs’ success.

In this issue you will find a call out for volunteers for the upcoming Casino days in February. (See p.11) The Casino is an important source of funding for our community. Each day requires a full compliment of volunteers to run. Please consider joining your fellow Wildwoodians in signing up for a shift to ensure we continue to be awarded this great fundraising event for our community initiatives. The Casino financially benefits Wildwood and is a wonderful way to meet some of your neighbours for an enjoyable day.

New for 2014 is the Light Up Wildwood community Christmas evening event. (See p.15) This event is a great opportunity to come out and visit with your neighbours, meet up with old friends, make new ones, and share some festive cheer. From setup crews to carollers, there are many opportunities to lend a helping hand to ensure the events’ success. Please help out if you can. It’s sure to be a fun and enjoyable evening…I hope to see you there!

Thank you to all who have participated in community events and programs and volunteered time and energy throughout the year. Together we make Wildwood a fantastic community for all to enjoy.
