Rink
The Wildwood Community Association is known to have one of the best free outdoor ice rinks in Calgary. Our dedicated group of volunteers takes great pride in creating and maintaining the ice skating facilities each winter season and it is one of the most popular features of our community center.
Rules for the Ice Rink and Pleasure Ice
Skating Times: Dawn until 10 PM
- Organized Shinny: Tuesdays, 6:15 – 8:30 pm; Wednesdays, 6:30 – 7:30 pm; Thursdays, 6:30 – 9 pm
- Organized lessons starting January10 am-12:30 PM
General Rules of Use:
- Stay off the ice while Zamboni is being used.
- No Sticks, Pucks or nets on the oval or the Pleasure Rink
- No smoking on or near any of the rinks or in the skate room
- Keep hockey sticks outside the skate room
- Be respectful of others and community property at all times

During the winter months, the Wildwood Community Association is proud to offer a wide range of ice skating, hockey and shinny opportunities, including:
Learn to Skate
Usually running on Sundays in January and February, this is a very popular program for kids to master the basics of skating. For more information and registration, see our dedicated Learn to Skate page.
Outdoor Shinny
A non-competitive, non-contact alternative hockey program for boys and girls from kindergarten through grade six. The program starts in January and runs as long as the weather permits. For more information and registration information, see our dedicated Shinny page.
Free Skating
The hockey rink is open for free skating and hockey during weekdays and weekends when no other scheduled programs are running. Hockey players are requested to give priority to skaters.
Winter Festival
One of the WCA’s most popular events, the Winter Festival aims to bring the local community together with skating, hot drinks and outdoor family fun. Details for the 2021 festival will be made available on our Events page, in the Warbler and on the WCA community sign.
Volunteers Wanted!
Have you ever wanted to make a giant ice cube? Drive a Zamboni?
The Rink Rats are always looking for volunteers to help make the best ice in Calgary! Crews run Sunday – Thursday nights or whenever you can lend a hand. Be part of the group that maintains it. It’s a lot of fun and a great way to meet people from your community.
