Wildwood and Spruce Cliff have been chosen as a ReTree Community in 2017! As part of the program, the City of Calgary will be planting new City trees in your community and educating community members about the proper planting and maintenance of our urban forest.
#1: Pruning and Disease 101 – Thursday, April 27th, 7pm – 8:30pm
Pruning & Disease 101 will cover what you need to know before “making the cut” as well as cover common tree diseases in Calgary, what they look like, what treatments can be used and where to go for more information. This is a beginner to intermediate course, but also a great venue for community experts to help educate their neighbours and discuss community tree care

#2 The Under Story – Thursday, May 4th, 7pm – 8:30pm.
The Under Story program will help you achieve the lush and scenic garden, around your trees, that you’ve always wanted. Discover a variety of plant species that are guaranteed to beautify the space around and below your trees. Learn how to maintain your understory and understand why no understory is complete without the addition of compost and mulch.

#3 Gardening with trees and shrubs in mind – Thursday, May 11th, 7pm – 8:30pm.
The addition of a tree or shrub can be the backbone of your garden design, elevating it to the next level of enjoyment. Join us in Gardening with Trees and Shrubs to discover the variety of attractive and hardy species available to revamp your home and garden. Learn to maximize the health of your tree and/or shrub by understanding the various microclimates within your garden, water conservation strategies, and the importance of mulch.

#4 Stretch your Roots – Guided Walk Thursday, May 18th, 7pm – 8:30pm
Meet at the Water Spiral in front of the WCA building. Walk ends back at the Water Spiral.
The Stretch your Roots tree tour is ‘poplar’ among all ages and we encourage you to bring out your whole family for an hour and half of tree-filled fun. The tour is customized to highlight the native and non-native, heritage, unique trees found within your community. The kids will have a great time completing tree bingos and scavenger hunts while experiencing all our Urban Forest has to offer. Join us for a relaxing and educational walk around your stunning community!

ReTree YYC Booth – onsite during guided walk session
The YYC ReTree Booth is a fun and interactive station for families to enjoy. Our booth is all about learning through activities and art. Our energetic staff will provide various crafts and games while also acting as a tree education resource. Each craft and game will be focused on increasing your basic tree knowledge in a fun and interactive way. Take home resources on tree care and maintenance will also be available.
No registration is required to drop in to the booth.
